Holiday Home Tour

Hi there! Welcome friends to the my holiday home tour!

I’m so happy to have been asked by my friend Jen Migonis to open my home this holiday season! Throughout this entire week, talented bloggers are ready to inspire by sharing their holiday homes!

If you are new to Making Home Base, we live in a cute rental here in sunny San Diego, CA. Believe it or not we get about 10 gloomy days a year and three of those gloomy days were as I was preparing for this tour. What luck! Nevertheless, the sun has come out once again and I can’t wait to share with you our holiday home!

We live in military base housing which offers some unique challenges but I think we do a decent job making it our own 🙂

Our living room is the heart of our home. It’s the family room, the play room, and after my daughter is in bed it’s the relaxing room. So it just makes sense for most of my holiday home decor to be right here.

Several months ago I bought this cart/table on clearance for just a few bucks. I never intended for to stay red but time definitely got away from me and I’ve just been living with it because it is mighty convenient. When I was preparing for this home tour, I began panicking that I hadn’t yet painted my table but once the space started coming together I realized how perfect the red is for Christmas.

It fits right in with the decor, I think.

Christmas Tree Home Tour 2014

The tree is my favorite. I’ve always had a real one so getting used to a fake tree this year was different but I have to say, I love it. It’s the perfect size for the space. It also will be “alive” on Christmas Day and that means a lot!

Since we don’t have a mantel to hang stockings from, I made a ladder stocking holder, instead. It really works for this small space.

I went with metallics on the tree this year, so I decided to carry that theme with the gift wrap.

Is there ever too much gold and glitter? I had so much fun making gold glitter dots on this gift for my sweet little girl.

I enjoy the details just as much as I enjoy the staples. These bottle brush trees in a bed of epsom salt “snow” is my favorite.

Christmas in the Kitchen

Another space that gets a lot of action during the holiday season is my breakfast/dining area. We bake a lot of cookies and love to entertain friends and neighbors.

Before you go, you’ll definitely want to check out my hot cocoa bar and peppermint hot cocoa recipe because you’ll want to have a great big mug of coffee or hot chocolate and a comfy chair because I’ve got a treat for you… Come join these other incredible women as they show off their homes. I can guarantee that you will gain inspiration and ideas for your own home each day during this tour!

  11. That red table is perfect for your Christmas decor. Everything looks so beautiful. I sure wish I would have been more creative those years we lived in base housing. ~Sonya

  12. I would NEVER guess that you live in base housing because your home is stunning! I love your holiday decorating, and I agree with everyone else that that red cart is perfect for this time of here. So jealous that you’re stationed in San Diego. Sounds amazing compared to being stationed in the middle of Kansas! 😉
