Paper Christmas Lights Garland Door Hanging
So remember last week when I opened that Christmas can of worms? Yeah, today, I’m just going to keep on going with this holiday crafting if that’s alright with you! I’m pretty sure my neighbors officially think I’m crazy as I was packing up the faux pumpkins and hanging up my paper holiday lights door hanging all at once. Hopefully it gets them in the holiday spirit 😉
PAPER HOLIDAY LIGHTS GARLAND: DOOR HANGING
A few weeks ago I stumbled on this door hanging. I loved the look of the vintage lights on the white frame and was determined to try something similar. I did a quick search for vintage/vintage like lights and didn’t find anything in my price range. Plus, I would have needed battery operated ones for use on the door hanging, which I didn’t find. I decided to go with the next best thing. PAPER of course. After consulting the Silhouette web store, I found the perfect graphic and concluded that I could make a quick strand of Christmas lights garland to use for my door hanging.
I bought this strand of lights at the Silhouette online store.
I ungrouped the image in order to remove the string portion of the graphic. Then, I was left with just the bulb portion of the lights.
I had the bulbs cut from construction paper (super cheap colorful paper) using blue, green, yellow, and red.
After cutting, I decided to take a sharpie and draw on some lines to give the look of the “screw top” part of the bulb. I feel like this part is totally optional. I tried it on a few and ended up liking the look so I continued with the remaining paper bulbs.Next, I hotglued the paper lights to some string making sure they were spaced about evenly. That’s not an exact science at all – just eyeball it.
To add the Christmas lights garland to the frame I just wrapped my garland around the frame taping it with scotch tape to keep the ends secure. I obviously varied from my inspiration. The framed chalkboard I used, I already had on hand. It’s shape wasn’t nearly as fun so it needed a little something so I added the “Merry & Bright” to take it to next level. Lastly, to hang the whole thing. This is kind of funny, Originally I didn’t have anything to hang it. I could have used a plain white piece of fabric but with a white door, and a white frame I wanted a pop of color. So I went through my scrap bucket (save your scraps people!) and ended up sewing a few scraps together to make the fabric tie.
And um, did you see my deer wreath hanger? I know! I’m dying over him and totally considering spraying him gold.
So that’s the paper Christmas Lights Garland Door Hanging in full detail.
But there’s more… when I found out about my sweet friend Lauren, from the Thinking Closet‘s, Silhouette Challenge, I begged asked her nicely to let me join in. She’s a genius, I love my Silhouette so naturally I had to be in. You can check out the other participants of the Silhouette Challenge by clicking any of the link below. Enjoy!

Very cute! Love the string of lights.
This string of (Paper) lights is so cute and fun! AND they don’t require any energy to brighten up a corner of the world! 🙂
Love the Christmas light garland! So festive!
Finally having a chance to go through all the Silhouette Challenge project inspiration– I’m like a [big] kid on Christmas but earlier!!
Your light bulb garland reminds me of vintage bulbs that we’ve been hoarding for the past couple years (they’re super cheap at all the garage sales). Anywho, draping them over your chalkboard sign is such a clever idea!
Keep rockin on!!
So cute and fun looking. Merry Christmas!
