When I shared my daughter’s room makeover a couple weeks ago, I got a ton of questions about the animal prints above the bed. It was difficult to come up with kids room wall art ideas. It made sense for us to print some animal silhouettes because my girl LOVES animals. Today I’m spilling the beans on how they came to be. Here’s a quick DIY wall art tutorial for ya! Kids Room Wall Art Idea - Framed Animal Silhouettes with a Girls RoomAfter we had completed her upholstered bed I wanted to hang some sort of wall art above it. DIY wall art was the obvious way to go since  this was a budget makeover.

Peighton is obsessed with animals! They are her absolute favorite, so I knew we had to include animals in her room somehow. I found some clip art that I was able to download for free and blow up to fit an 8 x 10 mat frame. After placing them in the frame I felt like they still needed something to make them pop. Polk dots, gold polka dots, did the trick! Let me show you how!

I picked up these black frames from IKEA. I think the black really pops with the bright pink.

These zots found at Michaels made making glittery polka dotting a breeze!

It comes on this roll with two rows that are offset. Perfect for what I needed. I laid the strip face down and slowly peeled off the backing leaving the glue dots on the the matte. The top and bottom of the matte are wider than the sides so I cut the zots strip in half to add an extra row to both the top and bottom.

Next, I went wild with the glitter. Obviously. Ha. I just sprinkled glitter liberally over all of the dots and then shook out the left overs, tapping the back lightly to get all the loose glitter.

Now you’ve got a cute glittery photo mat.

I placed the animal prints inside and hung them up above the bed.

Peighton loves to point out which animal is which to us all the time.

I really love how the polka dot mats really tie into the polka dot sheets to make a really polished look for this kids room wall art.

Genius! I would love to do these in my daughter’s room, she’s 16 and adores polka dots and elephants. Could I get a copy of the elephant print?

Those are so cute!! I have been needing to do something low budget and simple, I am not quite crafty or creative enough to carry a vision all the way through so my walls have been blank for too long! The kitchen area has especially neen lacking, and I can’t stop debating what would help bring it all together. I had been considering doing prints of fruits and maybe veggies or some herbs with a few flowers in the mix (flowers like lavender and chamomile so it stll has the edible factor in it) and they remind me of this. I love the idea of making it more interesting with adding to the matting. Do you think vertical stripes instead of polka dots would work? Or not at all. The prints are very silhouettes, just like the animals you used so I like the idea of them getting a little kick. Part of me is still entertaining the idea of making the silhouettes just outlines and painting them with tissue paper to add dimension and texture…I haven’t done something like that in ages though. If I stay away from the complications of the tissue paper then this seems like it would be simple enough for me to handle and quick and cheap enough where I can finish it before I want to move on iwthout completting it. Any advice, tips, suggestions, critiques would be very appreciated!! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us all! 😉 It’s so cute and is starting to inspire me!
