Five Tips for Finding the Best Home Items on eBay

This post is sponsored by eBay.

It’s been about two years since eBay hopped onto my radar for finding great home decor items. I knew little about what eBay actually sold and my experience with it was mostly just my husband buying old license plates for his collection. A couple of years ago I found some great bedding from there and I’ve been hooked ever since. Just in case, eBay isn’t top of mind for you when sourcing items for your home, I wanted to share some of my favorite tips to finding the best home items on eBay.

Tip 1: Know What You’re Looking For
eBay is a sea of products. You literally can find anything and everything there. Because of that vast variety, you are more likely to find what you want if you know exactly what you’re looking for. If you know you are looking for a piece of art, what kind of art are you looking for? Seascape? Vintage painting? If you know what you are looking for, you can be specific which leads us to tip 2.

Tip 2: Be Specific in Your Search Keywords
Again, eBay has a huge variety of products so you have a better chance of finding what you are looking for if you can be specific in your search. If you are looking for a basket, try specific search terms like “woven seagrass basket.” I found these African glass beads that I get asked about all the time by searching this exact keyword, “blue African glass beads.” Being specific is KEY.

Tip 3: Specify “New” when not Searching for Vintage Items
One way to easily weed out a bunch of items you don’t want is by simply checking the “New” box in the sorting section to the left. This will weed out any used or open items that you may not want. You can do this the reverse way if you are searching for a vintage item by checking the box “Used.”

Tip 4: Search Specific Brands
Another great way to narrow your search is by searching by brand. You can find open-box products from some of your favorite home decor brands like Pottery Barn, Serena and Lily, and more as well as brand new items that you would find at local boutique shops or other online retailers. This is also important when shopping for vintage items as well.

Tip 5: Dive into the Individual Sellers Other Offerings
I found this nice pillow cover so I clicked over to see all that the seller was offering and I found this pillow cover as well as dozens of other beautiful ones all for very reasonable prices. When you see something you like or that is along the same style vein as the item you are looking for, click over and see what else the retailer is selling, you may find even more treasures to enjoy!

eBay is a fantastic source for both new and vintage home decor items. You can find anything from rugs and lighting to pillows and decorative accessories. You can check out home decor on eBay here.
