Art Supply Caddy

This post is sponsored by Walmart. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Making Home Base.

Homeschooling this year has been such a surprisingly pleasant experience for the girls and me. Millie is beginning to read (!!) and Peighton is learning cursive and it’s so satisfying that I’m the one who is teaching them. I hope to have a more detailed post soon on how we homeschool but I did want to share one little tip today – make a homeschool art supply caddy for each child.

I’ve struggled a bit to stay organized with our homeschool supplies since we don’t have a dedicated homeschool space. We school around our kitchen table, sometimes on a blanket on the floor, and sometimes even outside. When we first started our homeschool journey I had one caddy on the table with some supplies but I found that the girls were getting up often to get other items they needed so I finally came up with something that was portable and has a ton of space to keep all of their supplies separate and together.

I used my Walmart+ membership to grab these mesh caddies using Walmart+ free shipping, no order minimum (excludes oversized/freight & Marketplace items) on items from Walmart.com. They’re actually shower caddies but I love how they have multiple pockets and a handle, plus they seem super durable. I got one for each child so they can keep track of their own school supplies. I filled each caddy with items I know we use regularly like pencils, notebook, glue, scissors, markers, etc. The reason I love that they each have a school supply caddy is so they can grab their caddy and get going on whatever work they have or they can grab the whole caddy and take it to the table to paint or draw. Nobody is asking me where their pencil is or where the gray marker is because all of their supplies are in their caddy.

I love my Walmart+ membership because when I get an idea like this I can quickly hop on Walmart.com and order the items I need with the benefit of Walmart+ free shipping with no order minimum (restrictions apply, excludes oversized/freight & Marketplace items). Since we live 30 minutes from the nearest Walmart having that benefit is so convenient. Walmart+ has several worthwhile benefits depending on your location:

  • Walmart+ free shipping, no order minimum on items shipped by Walmart.
  • Free delivery from your local store on orders $35+ (restrictions apply) which you can use for groceries & more.
  • Member prices on fuel. Save 5¢ per gallon at Walmart & Murphy stations. Access member prices at Sam’s Club fuel centers.
  • Mobile scan & go: Check out as you shop to make store shopping fast and contact-free.

I was already feeling clever when I came up with this idea for an art supply caddy but I was really patting myself on the back once the girls started using them. I no longer find myself picking up random crayons off the floor or find art supplies strewn across the dining table. The girls are really good about keeping their supplies in their own caddies.

Whether you’re homeschooling or not, I know we’re all trying to organize our lives where we can. You can find great organizational options at Walmart.com and have them shipped to your home with Walmart+ free shipping. It’s a great option for a time when we’re trying to spend a little less time in stores. You can visit Walmart.com to see all the eligible Walmart+ benefits available in your location.
