Holiday Home Tour
Hi there! Welcome friends to the my holiday home tour!
I’m so happy to have been asked by my friend Jen Migonis to open my home this holiday season! Throughout this entire week, talented bloggers are ready to inspire by sharing their holiday homes!
If you are new to Making Home Base, we live in a cute rental here in sunny San Diego, CA. Believe it or not we get about 10 gloomy days a year and three of those gloomy days were as I was preparing for this tour. What luck! Nevertheless, the sun has come out once again and I can’t wait to share with you our holiday home!
We live in military base housing which offers some unique challenges but I think we do a decent job making it our own 🙂
Our living room is the heart of our home. It’s the family room, the play room, and after my daughter is in bed it’s the relaxing room. So it just makes sense for most of my holiday home decor to be right here.
Several months ago I bought this cart/table on clearance for just a few bucks. I never intended for to stay red but time definitely got away from me and I’ve just been living with it because it is mighty convenient. When I was preparing for this home tour, I began panicking that I hadn’t yet painted my table but once the space started coming together I realized how perfect the red is for Christmas.
It fits right in with the decor, I think.
The tree is my favorite. I’ve always had a real one so getting used to a fake tree this year was different but I have to say, I love it. It’s the perfect size for the space. It also will be “alive” on Christmas Day and that means a lot!
Since we don’t have a mantel to hang stockings from, I made a ladder stocking holder, instead. It really works for this small space.
I went with metallics on the tree this year, so I decided to carry that theme with the gift wrap.
Is there ever too much gold and glitter? I had so much fun making gold glitter dots on this gift for my sweet little girl.
I enjoy the details just as much as I enjoy the staples. These bottle brush trees in a bed of epsom salt “snow” is my favorite.
Another space that gets a lot of action during the holiday season is my breakfast/dining area. We bake a lot of cookies and love to entertain friends and neighbors.
Before you go, you’ll definitely want to check out my hot cocoa bar and peppermint hot cocoa recipe because you’ll want to have a great big mug of coffee or hot chocolate and a comfy chair because I’ve got a treat for you… Come join these other incredible women as they show off their homes. I can guarantee that you will gain inspiration and ideas for your own home each day during this tour!

Beautiful, Chelsea! I love all the metallic touches! On an unrelated Christmas note – I love that red coffee table – don’t know how I’ve missed it before!!
Lovely, Chelsea! I just LOVE that red coffee table! It adds such a cheery pop of color!
Looks amazing friend!! The red table is perfection in there, and your shelves look awesome all decked out for christmas. Can I please come over for some hot chocolate in the sun???
So beautiful, Chelsea! I love the pops of bright red! Lovely! Merry Christmas, sweet friend! 🙂
YOU DID A GREAT JOB!!
Your home is so beautiful!! So many pretty little details. All the plaid and natural textures make it so inviting. That red coffee table is major <3.
Beautiful! That red metal coffee table is to die for!
That red table is perfect for your Christmas decor. Everything looks so beautiful. I sure wish I would have been more creative those years we lived in base housing. ~Sonya
I would NEVER guess that you live in base housing because your home is stunning! I love your holiday decorating, and I agree with everyone else that that red cart is perfect for this time of here. So jealous that you’re stationed in San Diego. Sounds amazing compared to being stationed in the middle of Kansas! 😉
Your table ended up fitting in beautifully! Everything looks so festive and lovely. Thanks for sharing your holiday home with us!
I think it’s a good thing you didn’t paint the coffee table! The color is perfect for in there now. My favorite part are the stockings hung on the ladder! 🙂 So glad to have you as part of the tour, Chelsea!
I couldn’t possibly love this any more Chelsea! I’m totally crushing on all of those red and rustic touches!!! GORGEOUS!
Chelsea, the house looks wonderful and I can feel the Christmas coming through from the photos. LOVE your red table, especially now… how perfect it that!? Happy Christmastime to you and your beautiful little family.
LOVE that simple wooden star! So pretty. And your bottle brush christmas tree vignette is so sweet! Everything looks great!
So beautiful, I absolutely envy your home decor! Happy Holidays to you and your family 🙂
This is so lovely, Chelsea! I love your idea for hanging stockings. We never seem to have a mantle either! And it’s a good thing you didn’t have time to paint the table. That red works so well.
Gorgeous tour Chelsea! And you’re right – that red table looks absolutely perfect in your living room now!
Chelsea! I love all your beautiful touches, that red coffee table, the rope shelving with the cocoa station. Pinning like mad!
Just found your site. Love your Christmas home. I live in NC and would to have the sun all the time like you said you have. You have a wonderful talent! Enjoyed the tour. Thanks, Pam
I love all of your Christmas decor Chelsea – and that red coffee table is gorgeous! You’ve made your military base home waaaaay more beautiful than the PMQ we lived in!! So fun to be on this home tour with you! Hugs and all the best for 2015! ~ Heather
Just found your blog through the summer home tour. You should consider going into the design business, perhaps consulting online? You’ve got a wonderful eye and creativity galore, and, obviously, a great passion for home improvement.
