The Best Carpet for Pets

This post is sponsored by The Home Depot. The opinions expressed about the best carpet for pets are 100% my own.

Pet Proof Carpet Reveal

Meet Rudy. Handsome guy isn’t it? About three years ago, when P was really little she used to have an imaginary dog. She would get a piece of string and drag it on the floor and when you’d ask her what she was doing, she’d say “I’m walking my dog, Rudy.” For at least a year, she begged us for a real dog while simultaneously caring for her imaginary one. When we moved to Florida, Matt and Peighton finally talked me into getting a puppy and what else would we name him, but Rudy.

He’s bigger than we expected and has more energy than all of us combined but he fits right into our crazy house. He’s always getting into mischief whether it’s stealing snacks from the pantry or digging in my flowers. His favorite pastime is digging in my garden bed, chewing up every little tiny figurine the girls have and of course sneaking into bedrooms to roll around on the carpet.

Until recently, bedrooms (especially ours since we had just made it over) were off limits to Rudy because dirty paws and carpet don’t work well at all. When I got an invitation to review a new line of Home Depot carpet, their LifeProof carpet that was specifically designed to be “pet proof,” I immediately said yes. PetProof carpet is the best carpet for pets. This Home Depot carpet is designed to be animal-friendly and is the perfect addition for pet owners (and young families) because it combats the toughest pet stains. It’s 0% moisture absorption reduces pet odors in the carpet fibers while the NonolocTM spill and soil shield make for quick and easy cleanup.

I discovered rather quickly that this carpet isn’t just great for Rudy, it’s great for my kids. It’s 0% moisture absorption reduces pet odors in the carpet fibers while the NonolocTM spill and soil shield makes for quick and easy cleanup of those unexpected spills from the kids or the dog. It’s also 3X easier to clean dirt, hair and pet dander. They had me at dirt. Seriously. I specifically the love the one we selected with the low pile, it feels like the vacuum can more easily pick up the dirt and dander than the higher pile carpets.

The PetProof line of carpet has a great selection of styles and colors. I selected a diamond pattern called Sawyer in the color First Choice. I don’t think they offer this exactly pattern and color combination anymore but this one is very similar. I love the patterned style, and the carpet is so plush underfoot.

Because the Home Depot PetProof carpet is so much easier to clean and is literally the best carpet for pets, I felt confident going with a lighter color carpet than before and I’m so glad I did because it fits so much better with the style of our home.

This carpet is a game changer for our furry kid. I love that Rudy can come in and lay down next to the bed without me freaking out at the thought of the black dirt staining our carpet and I think he’s pretty crazy about it too.

You can find PetProof carpet at The Home Depot store and online here.

  2. Thank you for posting this!! I am actually having this installed in our new home at this very moment. At first I was going to go with a more basic carpet (no design) until I saw this. I love the look. I also have a dog and I hope he will love it as much as your dog.

    1. Hey Denise, I hope you are enjoying the carpet! I think it gives a more high end look. Ours is still looking like new! Love it so much!

    1. Hi Martha, I use warm water + oxyclean usually. Although, the stainblocking element is pretty legit. My daughter has dripped popsicle (bright blue) juice on the carpet and I immediately wiped it up with a damp warm water towel and there wasn’t even a hint of a stain. Hope that’s helpful.

  3. I had this carpet installed by Home Depot in my family room. Within 30 days the carpet snagged. My puppies were playing and one of the puppies got their collar stuck on one of the loops on the carpet. I complained several times to Home Depot (even called Corporate) and they refuse to do anything. I would NOT recommend this pet owners. I have two puppies and they are both no more than 10 lbs. If I wasn’t home, I hate to think what would could have happened to the puppy stuck to the loop in carpet.

    1. Oh wow, Veronika – I’m so sorry to hear that. We’ve had this carpet now for over six months and haven’t experienced this at all. Our dog is about 70 pounds.

  4. Hello, Just read your post and am looking at this carpet now. After having this in your house for a year, how would you say this is holding up and is it still a very good choice for pet owners?
    Thank you,
    Sean

    1. Hey Sean, we still love it. Planning on replacing the other carpet in our home to match. Great quality carpet in my book!

  5. OMG, I want Rudy. What kind of dog is he? We just ripped up our carpet and are looking for something just like this. We are heading to HD tonight. Thanks.

  6. I have a quick question concerning the life proof carpet. One of my dogs peed on the new carpet which I cleaned up right away. It has, however, left a terrible smell in the carpet. How do I go about getting rid of this odor? I purchased this carpet because of being pet friendly but if it leaves an odor every time there is an accident I would have to give the carpet. Failing grade. Thank you

    1. oh wow – I haven’t had any pet accidents on the carpet but in the past, a water-vinegar solution has worked well for me.

    2. I am looking to replace carpet and have read so many reviews I should have my mind made up but unfortunately I continue to read something that I must reconcile before I make my decision. I am wondering if Lynn was able to get the smell out of the carpet and am hoping she still reads the comments. Lynn, if your reading this, what was the smelly resolve regarding the pet accident and clean up of your new carpet? Did the smell come out of the carpet?

    1. Hi Lisa, I’m sorry you feel that it didn’t feel genuine. It is a sponsored post, which I disclosed multiple times. The Home Depot provided me with the carpet but we do genuinely love it. I only recommend products that I truly use and love. It’s been a year and a half and we still love it! I’d suggest trying it out for yourself if you’re in the market for carpet.

    1. Hi Joan, I did a quick search over on Home Depot and it looks like there are several taupe colors. I think a fairly neutral color will be fine for wall to wall carpet.

  9. I’m looking at the Home Depot site for PetProof carpeting. I only see 4 options for PetProof, but a lot of options for “LifeProof”. I’m not seeing any textured carpeting under PetProof. So is LifeProof the same thing?

    1. Hi Laura, it looks like the LifeProof carpet is an updated version of the PetProof. It has a lifetime pet stain warranty. I’d go with it.

  10. I am really interested in lifeproof Echo Creek. It is not the pet friendly one what would be the difference. I have a cat and dog.

  11. We have a Berber carpet now. Our goldenrod likes to find strands that are loose or something and the carpet just unravels. Will this happen with your pet friendly carpet?
