Create Dedicated Office Space: The first key to the perfectly functional home office is having a dedicated work space. For me, having an entire room isn’t always possible. Never fear, all you need is a desk and a little sliver of space. There are many beautiful and functional workspaces that are small. It will require a bit of creativity and planning but you can have a beautifully organized work space in the corner of your living room or wherever you see fit. Having a dedicated workspace without clutter and with minimal distraction will increase functionality and work progress.

Use ALL Of The Space, all of it: If you are working with minimal space, you want to be smart about the space you do have. You can go vertical by installing some shelving. You can even repurpose furniture to create additional storage, like a print station from an old media cabinet. Having something like this will give you more desk space by getting bulky items such as printers and scanners off of the desk top. It keeps your work space clear and reduces clutter.

Make It Pretty: Working in a place that is appealing to the eye is sure to be inspiring which will increase productivity. To avoid a blah workspace, include colors and things you love. Some favorite workspace decor ideas are framed inspirational quotes, potted plants, and garlands. Use lots of color. Don’t feel trapped into sticking with the color scheme of the room. Allow your workspace to reflect your personality.

Don’t Forget The Storage: You want your storage selections to contribute to the aesthetic. One idea for beautiful storage is the use of classic baskets (can you ever get enough baskets?). Also, allow your supplies to be your decor. Store your supplies in glass jars. The mixture of colors and textures will be a lovely addition to your work space decor. It will also encourage you to keep your supplies organized since they will all be in open view. Don’t forget the desk drawers, you can line them with your favorite wrapping paper for a little colorful surprise!

Whatever inspires you and keeps you going, belongs on that board. You can do this with an old fashion cork board, magnetic board, or you can get creative and create a inspiration board out of a repurposed window. You can even make your own chalkboard to jot down your grand ideas, 5 year plan, inspirational quotes and more.

All of these ideas are inexpensive and simple to do. They just require a bit of creativity and some time. With these tips you are sure to have the office of your dreams!
