Decorating Around the TV
Decorating around the tv can be tricky but when done right, it’s magic.

Decorating around a TV
Backstory, our living room tv wall is a tricky one to decorate. It’s a long blank wall with a tv smack dab in the center of it. I attempted a gallery wall around the tv a couple of years ago ultimately took it down because I didn’t love it (you can see the old gallery wall here). Then, I considered a built-in bookshelf around the tv but that ended up being a bigger project than I wanted to pursue and we ended up doing a built-in bookshelf on the opposite wall, behind the sofa. I decided the best, most affordable option was to do a gallery wall around the tv.

A gallery wall around the television draws the attention away from the big black box and allows the eye to move around the wall discovering the different elements of art. I really love decorating around the tv with beautiful artwork, memorable items, photos, etc. I started collecting pieces that fit my favorite coastal vibes and then moved my blue abstract piece from the fireplace over.
One reason I love using a whole house color palette is that it makes it easy to swap out pieces of decor from room to room.

I’ve been collecting artwork for this gallery wall for awhile – picking up art prints and pieces here and there. I purchase prints that I loved and hung onto them until I had enough for this display. The Underwater art print from Helo Birdie is one of my favorite purchases ever. I love how playful it is and the colors are so soothing. The one right below it is a Katie Craig print that I purchased a while back. It hung in the girls’ room for a little while and now I love it here. To the right is a gorgeous print by Emily Jeffords. I love the blue tones of this piece. It reminds me of the most gorgeous day imaginable, one where the birds are singing, the sky is perfect with big puffy clouds… so calming.

I think one thing that helps this gallery wall around the tv succeed in a way that the old one did not is that I pulled the frames in a little tighter to the TV so it feels like the TV is a part of the display instead of a display around the TV if that makes sense.
Using a gallery wall around the tv is a great option whether your tv is mounted to the wall or on a stand. You can still achieve the goal of making the wall look like a cohesive art collection not just a random television and art around it.
This option is great for rental decorating because oftentimes you can’t mount your television. Decorating around a tv with a gallery wall works just as well without a mounted tv.

Decorating around a wall mounted TV can be a real challenge, especially if you have a large wall, it can look like a huge black box floating in the middle of the wall. Having frames like these framing the TV help the wall look much more polished than it had before. It also is the perfect amount of decor for the wall without being too much, in my opinion.
I’d love to know if you’ve attempted a gallery wall around the TV or how you go about decorating around the TV – please let me know in the comments!
Omg I am obsessed with this!! Chelsea it looks so freaking good!
This looks amazing! I really love what you suggested about keeping your house one color palate so that you can easily swap things from room to room! There is nothing more satisfying to me than to shop my own house!
You did a great job.
I love your TV stand! Where can I find one like this?
Thank you – I bought it locally at a shop at the beach but I did link to a couple with a similar feel.
I absolutely love what you’ve done here! So creative and pretty, and solving a problem many face, including myself. I’ll be on the lookout for art so I can start a similar style. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Chelsea!
I know this is an old post, but boy does it give me inspiration for a very current (and long term) dilemma for our living room. Would you be able to provide the frame/matting sizes for your art? The dimensions look like they would work perfectly around our tv. Also, I am married to retired Marine and did the military life for 22 years. I admire your ability to make your house a beautiful home, no matter where life (and the Navy) takes you. Good luck and God Bless,
Nicole
Hello! It’s gorgeous! Where is the fiddle fig tree from?
World Market
I love how this breaks up the square black lines of the TV
