Little Girls Room Makeover Before and Inspiration

Ya’ll! Operation big girl’s room began with a “big girl” bed a few weeks ago. I still can’t believe my baby isn’t a baby anymore! I’ve decided to keep my mind off the fact that she’s a big girl, and I’m just going to throw myself into decorating her room and maybe by the time I’m done I will have accepted it. Ha. I started out by searching high and low for the perfect bed. After looking at dozens of beds I decided that I really wanted to do an upholstered bed in a nice bright color. Of course, I couldn’t bring myself to pay the crazy high prices so I’ve decided to DIY one. I found some awesome inspiration in these great IKEA hacks and decided to do one of my own. I purchased the IKEA Tarva bed in a twin and can’t wait to hack it. So that brings us to where we are right now. In the half baby half or little girls room.

Her room is super small and is packed with furniture. We’ll be doing a bit of rearranging, for sure. I also plan to paint her room. Since we rent, and will eventually have to paint it back, I want to go with a lighter color that will accent the bold colors I have in mind.

I normally have a really tough time picking the perfect paint color. This time around, I used the Sherwin-Williams Chip It!® tool. It’s fabulous. It instantly transforms any picture into a paint palette using more than 1,500 Sherwin-Williams paint colors. You can add the bookmark to your bookmark bar and whenever you are browsing the web, you can click the Chip It! bookmarklet and it will instantly give you a perfect palette of colors! You can also upload a photo of your own. So if you are already loving your decor but are looking for a new paint color, you can snap a picture and upload, and the Chip It!® tool will transform it into a custom palette of colors.

My favorite part is that you can create an account on the Sherwin-Williams Chip It!® website and save all of your palettes or ChipCards in one place.

Like I mentioned, I want to do a really cute and feminine upholstered bed as the main piece of furniture. I love this pink one from Overstock. I also found a few things that had colors schemes that I liked, so I used Chip It! to see what colors would work best.

I’m leaning towards a combo of two of these palettes, and I was really excited to see SW 2850 Chelsea Gray on one of the palettes! Sounds like it’s meant to be, no?

So here’s the plan:

1. Paint the room a nice neutral color

2. DIY an Upholstered Bed

3. New bedding

4. Hang Curtains

5.  Hang shelves

6.  Hang gallery wall/art work

7.  Accessorize

Of course, I’ll be doing all of this on the cheap because you know how much I love a thrifty project! Stay tuned because I will be sharing all the details! It’s going to be great!
