Easy Washi Tape Accent Wall

It’s no secret that I love washi tape. I have a little bucket of it sitting on my desk. Most days you can even my little girl carrying a couple rolls of it around like toys. It’s true! And actually she kind inspired this quick DIY. Did you catch this on Instagram a few days ago?

I was cleaning up after my little tornado and in her path there were a few rolls of washi tape. I was putting them away and decided to try a little something on this tiny sliver of wall we have in our entry way. I ended up with what I think is a really cool and really easy washi tape accent wall! Let me show you.

So there is no tutorial here. No before photo or step by step shots. I literally was just taping away while my little one was watching a cartoon and having a snack. I wasn’t even planning on keeping it up, I just wanted to see how it might turn out and maybe get a reaction out of my husband.

But we both ended up loving it so it stayed. I took two rolls of washi tape that I had in my stash. I love the one with the little bicycles. Without measuring or leveling I just started taping the wall in a stripy pattern. They aren’t perfectly spaced or perfectly straight but I don’t even mind. It still looks neat to me!

And the best part about this awesome washi tape accent wall feature is that it can come down just as quickly as it went up. In less than one episode of Sesame Street we can be back to blank walls. You guys know I love that.

Easy!

  2. i love this idea! i have never heard of washi tape before…. i think you just exposed me to a new obsession! how wide is the tape that you used in these pictures? i love the white space between the lines of tape… do you think there are certain kinds of patterns to stay away from when recreating this?
    thanks!

  5. This is fun in theory, or for a very small space of wall, but anything on a larger wall and expect it to be stupidly time consuming. I painted 4 very large stripes across on small wal in my place, and it took ten times longer than I expected because you can’t just measure you distance inbetween on just the two end of the wall, you have to do it once a foot incase of any slack. I’m guessing washi tape would be worse because you would normally do a row every two inches going down. VERY time consuming.

  6. Very cool idea! I have never used washi tape before (shocking, right?) but I may just have to after seeing your project! It’s a great way to add a little pizazz to a room. Thanks for sharing your creativity!

  7. You are the queen of DIY wall treatments! What a cute idea! Such a perfect little space for it too. Hope you’re having a wonderful week, Chelsea!
