Are you looking for the perfect white paint color? Finding your Goldilocks of paint colors in the white category can be overwhelming and frustrating. There are so many different white paint colors and if you’ve ever thought there was a “true white” then you think again because every single white paint color has an undertone of some kind that pushes it into either the cool or warm category. If you’re on the hunt and looking for white paint colors to sample, may I suggest, Behr Whisper White as a possibility?

This creamy white paint color brings to mind fresh snow on a sunny day. It’s complemented really well by natural lighting. It has some beige undertones that give it a warmth and coziness that keeps this white paint color from feeling stark and cold. It’s a beautiful color option to help create a warm and inviting space. It’s perfect for walls and trims alike in many different spaces, including kitchens, living rooms, and bedrooms. Behr Whisper White HDC-MD-08 is a part of the White Color Family. I always recommend sampling multiple paint colors before settling on one. If you are considering Behr Whisper White, be sure to sample the paint color first. Paint colors look different in different rooms and with different lighting, so it’s always best to test out paint samples before you commit to using the color in a space in your home. Also, be sure to notice the paint color at different times throughout the day to get a good idea of how the color will look in your space.

Is Behr Whisper White a “True” White?

No, Whisper White is not a true white because there is no, true white!

Picking a white paint color is difficult because there’s no such thing as “true” white. All white paint colors have subtle undertones that influence the color slightly. Additionally, because of the high light reflective value in white paints, they pick up and reflect whatever is around them. If you have a white painted wall with a large window facing a nice big green lawn, then you may see some green on that white wall. You can use those undertones to counterbalance the environment.

I’ll talk more about the undertones in Whisper White in just a moment but it’s important to note that these undertones that show through a paint color once it’s applied to your walls can sometimes be really noticeable in white paint colors. The undertones in white paint colors can be cool or warm, and they will change the way the white paint color looks in your space.

What is the LRV?

The Light Reflective Value or LRV of Behr Whisper White is 89. LRV is a useful tool for finding how light or dark a paint color is (100 being the whitest white and 0 being the darkest black). Keep in mind that “light” refers to Light Reflective Value, meaning the amount of light reflected. The more reflective the color, the brighter it will appear. This paint color is “white” so it has a fairly high LRV but you can see that it’s not the purest white. It absorbs a little light giving it that creamy finish that makes it so inviting.

What Undertones Does Whisper White Have?

We went over what undertones are but what are the undertones in the paint color Whisper White?  Whisper White has just a slight beige/cream undertone that gives that whisper of warmth and softness.

Is Whisper White a Cool or Warm Paint Color?

Whisper White is a warm leaning white paint color. It has a soft and creamy feel. It is not stark at all. This paint color is like being wrapped in a warm blanket. It’s hard to find a warm silky white that is not heavy on the yellow undertones, this one is a great option if you are looking for warm but not too yellow. If you are looking for a white paint that runs a little cooler but still feels inviting and not sterile, check out Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore.

What Paint Sheen Should I Use for Whisper White?

An eggshell finish or a flat sheen is always my recommendation for living spaces. If you need more durability then you can go to a satin or a semi-gloss just know that you will have a higher level of shine and those finishes are less forgiving to any wall blemishes or touch-ups you may have. I love using Behr paint colors, specifically Behr Marquee paint as it has incredible coverage for walls, ceilings, and trim.

Is Whisper White A Good Color Selection?

Behr Whisper White easily falls into the category of “favorite white paint colors.” It is the perfect shade for a bunch of spaces. It’s a great trim color. It’s also great for cabinetry, ceilings, exteriors, and interior walls. White exteriors have blown up in popularity over the last few years and Whisper White would be a great contender if you were considering the farmhouse white house black trim aesthetic for your home.

What are some other popular colors?

I want to show you some other beautiful white paint colors with similar undertones that are also warm and inviting.

Benjamin Moore White Dove

An all-time favorite among designers, this paint color is in the solid off-white category of white paint colors. It’s warm and soothing without overpowering undertones. Though, the undertones it does have are slightly more green than Whisper White. This paint color has an LRV of 85, which is very similar in brightness to Whisper White. If you prefer something trusted and true definitely also grab a sample of Benjamin Moore White Dove and put them both to the test.

Sherwin Williams Alabaster

Another crowd favorite white paint color is Sherwin Williams Alabaster. A solid creamy white paint color that has designers and homeowners alike using it all over their homes. Its LRV is 82 which has a little less brightness and more depth than Whisper White. The paint color is fantastic for farmhouse style, traditional, and transitional homes. It even works beautifully in coastal design as well. If Whisper White is a little too white for you, Alabaster is a great contender to look into.

Behr Ultra Pure White

We used this paint color on all of our trim in our Florida house initially and it looked like pure white to me. In the paint swatch above it is clear that it has a green undertone. Behr even considers it part of their “green family” collection. It has an LRV of 94 which isn’t surprising because like I said, it looks pure white to me. This is definitely a must sample when you are hunting for the perfect white.

Wrapping Up

Overall, if you’re looking to make create a warm and inviting space in your home, Behr Whisper White is a great white paint color to consider. With its slightly beige undertones, this white paint color won’t feel stark and cold like some other white paint colors can. It’s perfect for many different rooms in your home including kitchens, living rooms, and bedrooms.

  1. Thanks for this great review of Whisper White! Do you have any experience with Behr Whipped Cream, which is supposedly a dupe for BW Chantilly Lace?
