Spring Decorating – Our Rental Decorated for Spring
Hi friends. Spring is here and the beautiful weather gives me a glimmer of hope that I’ve been searching for this week. While we’re in a period of uncertainty, there’s one thing I know, and it’s that each day is new. I hope you are doing well through it all. We’re hanging in there. Staying home, finding joy in small things and taking heart in the fact that we’re all in this together.
I’m thrilled to be joining a bunch of blogging pals and inviting you into our home for a spring home tour. One of my favorite things about blogging is connecting with others, getting inspired by their beautiful home and amazing projects. Throughout the week, 30 bloggers have opened their homes and shared their spring decorating ideas. If you’re visiting from Follow the Yellow Brick Home, welcome! I’m so glad that you are here! I also want to thank our ever-gracious host, Marty, who puts on one grand seasonal home tour! Make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom of this post and click around to see all the tours.
If you’re new to Making Home Base, here’s a Cliff Notes introduction. I’m Chelsea. Crafty lady, girl mama, bread baker, Real Housewives lovin’ gal. My Navy husband Matt and I live in California with our two daughters. We’ve recently been assigned to a small base in the high desert of California (Twentynine Palms). Before this, we lived in Florida for four years. We miss it every day but this place has grown on us. We live on base so our home is a rental but we’re working hard to make it the perfect home for us!
Come on in. Oh, and make sure you give Rudy a little pet. He loves new friends.

One quick caveat before we go any further. My kids have been home for seven straight days so my house doesn’t look like this today. I did get a chance to play around and spruce it up for spring a couple of weeks ago and I snapped these photos then.
Our cozy downstairs is the heart of our home with the living room and dining room being the most used spaces (other than the kitchen of course).
You can find Matt and I spending many an hour snuggled up on this couch with two little giggling girls between us watching the latest movie or an old favorite for the 100th time.
One of my favorite tricks for seasonal decorating is to swap out your pillow covers. I rummaged through my linen closet and found some old favorites to enjoy again. I’m really into cool and coastal vibes so blue fits my usual decor quite well but these lighter blues bring a brighter look to our space.
Moving onto our dining room.
I’m still loving the wallpaper so much. It was a temporary hack on permanent wallpaper (you can read about it here).
You might recognize that storage bench from our old house. We brought it with us and it still houses small kitchen appliances. It’s great for extra seating. Peighton loves to sit over here and read.
We use this space every single day so I wanted to make a tablescape that wasn’t too formal.
I found this bouquet at the Farmer’s Market. I love finding local flowers to enjoy.
The place settings are really simple with these woven placemats, my every day which dishes, and some linen napkins tied into a knot.
I just pulled this bread out of the oven and it’s a shame you can’t pop over right now to enjoy it with me.
I have a fun collection of glass jars that I placed at the top of our cabinet. One tip I have for decorating for spring is adding greenery wear you can. I love faux stems like these in a jar or whatever vessel you might have.
I so appreciate you stopping by and browsing our spring decorated home.
Since I’m the last one on the tour, you can start the tour fresh over at Marty’s place, A Stroll Thru Life. Tell her I said hello!
