Summer Home Tour
Hi! Welcome to my Summer Home Tour! I’m so happy to be sharing a glimpse into our new home (finally)! When Marty from A Stroll Thru Life asked me to join her, and 28 other bloggers to share our summer home tours I was beyond thrilled. I thought this would be the perfect time to show you how the new place is coming along in here Florida.
If you are popping in from Our Southern Home, welcome! Isn’t Christy fabulous? Her photos are always drop dead gorgeous!
My family recently moved from southern California to north Florida – recently as in we’ve been in our house just over a week. If this were a true tour of my home you would see boxes piled to the ceiling in my hall closet, one million mason jars all over my dining table (how did I ever accumulate so many?), and my daughter’s play food strewn about our downstairs because she’s playing restaurant. I’ll spare you all that and just share the pretty stuff 🙂 Our home is a newer construction, builder basic rental, town home tucked away in the woods of the Naval Air Station here in Jacksonville, Florida. Of all of our rentals this one is probably one of my favorites.
It has an adorable front porch that is perfect for sipping coffee in the mornings before it gets too hot and sticky.
It’s also perfect for eating peanut butter sandwiches and watching the neighbor dogs.
Having a front porch area is brand new to us so I was excited to have another opportunity to decorate an outdoor space. I love these aqua chairs.
The entire downstairs is really open, we have a small “entryway” to the left when you come inside.
Our living room got a major facelift since moving to Florida. I’ve said before, I’m not a decorator. I’m just a regular gal that loves decorating and design. While we were in the process of moving here I had tons of time to figure out exactly what I wanted for this next house and it’s it’s really coming together nicely. Dare I say, I’ve found my “style”? We’ll see.
One major switch was the white slipcover. Previously we had a gray one which was probably a little more practically but I’ve always dreamed of having a white slipcovered sofa (I even spilled my guts about my sofa woes here and here) so I finally went for it and seriously, I couldn’t be happier. The wall art is a DIY and kind of a signature in my living room. You can see the tutorial here.
Another addition to this space is the pair of wicker chairs. I got them for a steal on Joss & Main (here) and fell completely in love as soon as they arrived. When we went from a sectional sofa to a regular sofa we really needed the extra seating. These chairs are great for that and they also give the space a coastal feel that I really love.
The coffee table was fate. Truly. I wasn’t really searching for a table but I stumbled across this one for just a few dollars so I snagged in a heartbeat. It needs some TLC for sure but the structure is gorgeous and again, it goes along with the coastal feel I’m looking for.
No home tour is complete without a fresh bunch of flowers (from Trader Joe’s, am I right?). My daughter picked out these tulips and I love her choice.
I always struggle with coffee table styling and this table is huge making it even tougher. I figured you can’t go wrong with a basket, some flowers, and a poly resin octopus. Um, yeah. This little guy hopped into my cart at Hobby Lobby and I’m pretty sure he’s the best summer accessory in the house.
The rest of our house is still a long way away from being any sort of done. I think that’s the fun of it though, the journey, ya know? I’m really looking forward to what this cute little rental has in store for us these next few years we are here in Florida. For now, I hope you enjoyed a quick glimpse of my summer home tour. Be sure to head on over to Hymns & Verses. You can also grab the links for all 30 of the homes on the 2015 Summer Home Tour line up. Thanks so much for visiting with me today! Happy Summer!

Hi Michele! Thank you so much! Yes, I sure did make it. I made it a few months back for the Home Depot DIY Challenge – Plywood edition. It came out even better than I could have imagined! The tutorial is here if you want to check it out: http://ext.homedepot.com/community/blog/oversized-diy-wall-art-made-from-plywood/
Your home is lovely!! Wondering where your black and white striped throw pillow is from?? It is so fun!
Your home is beautiful! I love your style! Where did you find the blue striped pillows? That is exactly what I have been looking for!
Hi Ashley, thank you! – they are actually black and white – the covers are from HM.com. They had a variety of colors when I purchased these so they may have blue and white now. 🙂 Hope that helps!
