Free Decorating Ideas

FREE AND ALMOST FREE DECORATING IDEAS - Real decorating ideas that will cost zero dollars but have a big impactI’ve written previously about decorating without spending a gazillion dollars. I mean, I prefer to waste my money at the Target dollar spot and on all the Cat and Jack brand children’s clothes. So, spending a fortune on home decor isn’t really my thing. Now, I’ve shared ways to save money when you’re decorating your home. I’m all about spending when it’s something you love, I mean reallyyyy love but I think you can definitely create a beautiful home on a teeny budget and sometimes you can do it for FREE. Also, there’s something seriously rewarding about making and creating and thinking outside of the box. Using your creativity + getting zero dollar decor you love = winning in my book. Here are some free decorating ideas:

Shop your house

The first thing I do when I get the itch to decorate or redecorate is look around my house to see what I already have. I move around pillows, trays, and vessels. I swap out artwork or rearrange accent furniture. This instantly gives my home a facelift and allows me to resist the urge to run to Target and buy all of the things.

Grab a paint brush

It’s probably no secret that I’m a fan of customizing furniture by painting it. Whether it’s pieces that we’ve already had or pieces that I’ve found, a coat of paint can be completely transformative. Some of my favorite furniture projects have been this chest turned nightstand and this beautiful spindle bed that we painted green for our daughter’s room. If you don’t want to go big and paint a full piece of furniture, consider painting small details like the legs of a chair.

Make your own artwork

This one is a biggie. Beautiful artwork on the walls of your home makes it feel so warm and inviting. It makes a space look finished. Original artwork can be pricey, even prints can be up there in cost. One super budget friendly, and I mean zero dollars, way to get beautiful artwork on your walls is to make your own. I’ve made quite a few over the years.

Add greenery

Adding a little greenery into your home immediately brings more life and movement into your home. A house plant, small indoor tree, or even a small herb garden can do the trick and you can add any of these for free or almost free. You can even clip some greenery from your yard and throw it in a vase for a fresh look.

Not only are plants beautiful, they are useful. They purify the air and if you decide on an herb garden you’ll get fresh herbs to toss into your recipes. That’s a huge win in my book.

Repurpose what you have

I’m big on repurposing and finding new uses for old things. I love using platters and serving dishes as coffee table trays or pitchers and crocks and vases. I have stained and painted old woven baskets to give them new life. Other ideas would be hanging a plate wall with some vintages dishes that you no longer have space or use for, paint old picture frames and hang them in a gallery, repurpose linens by turning them into pillows.

So, those are just a few of my favorite ways to decorate for little or no money. What are your favorite free decorating ideas?
