Your Favorite Posts of 2018

Happy New Years gals. I’ve been offline and I’m feeling so refreshed after spending time with family. We ate good food, drank good wine, played a ton of games (totally recommend Hearing Things – my stomach hurt from laughing so much) and just enjoyed each others company – what holidays are all about in my book. This year is sure to bring a lot of changes and excitement for us personally and business-wise. We’re up for orders and should be hearing any day whether or not we’ll be moving. It’s hard to believe we’ve only been here for three years because this house feels like it’s always been home. I have a brand new (and totally different/unrelated) project I’m working on and plan on launching this spring and I’m so, so excited about it! There are a lot of unknowns in our life right now but I one thing I do know is 2019 will bring lots of fresh content to the blog!

One of my favorite posts each year is recapping your favorite blog posts from the year. I’m recapping the most read MHB blog posts from 2018. I love seeing what resonated with you guys so that I can try to do more of that in the coming months.

10. My Secret Source for Bedding
I shared my secret source for bedding when we gave our master bedroom bedding a little refresh. It’s not what you’d expect and that might be why it did so well. You guys really loved the quilt we found and even found some great bedding of your own!

9. Staying Organized with Kids
This post is so so relevant right now. It’s January and we’re all trying to kick it into gear with the organization. I partnered with some mama friends and we each shared some of our own little tricks to staying organized when you feel like a chicken with your head cut off aka have kids.

8. Coastal Wall Art and Where to Buy
When shopping for some pieces for our TV gallery wall, I found some beautiful pieces of wall art that fit my coastal loving style perfectly and apparently you agreed! In addition to these pieces, you can always download and print my free beach photos to use as wall art in your home.

7. How Becoming a Morning Person Changed my Life
It’s no secret that I’ve been a night owl for basically always but I challenged myself to go to bed earlier and get up earlier this year and it literally changed my life. My days feel much more successful when I have a couple of hours to get stuff done before my kids wake up in the morning. I shared why I made the change, how I did it, and the benefits I’ve experienced in this post.

6. My Five Favorite Purchases for the Home
Since moving our home three years ago we’ve purchased a lot of products from functional pieces to decorative items. In this post, I evaluated dozens of purchases in our home and ranked my top five items, sharing exactly why each item earns such high marks from my family. You might be surprised by some of my selections!

5. Girls IKEA Closet Makeover
I was literally singing Hallelujah as I put the final touches on the girls closet. The functionality we were able to achieve in this makeover made all the difference to this space. Matt and I ditched the awful wire rack closet system and hacked some IKEA pieces to create the perfectly functional closet for our girls’ shared bedroom.

4. Customized IKEA Billy Bookcases
Apparently, you guys were a fan of the IKEA hacks because our DIY built-ins came in just above the closet makeover. Friends after my own heart – I love a good DIY project. We wanted built ins for our living room but knew it would cost a fortune to have them done for us or even doing them ourselves with lumber. The IKEA Billy bookcases made a great base for us to build upon. The tutorial is here.

3. How I Organized my Whole Kitchen
I overhauled my entire kitchen this time last year and I’m proud to say that it looks just as good today! The function that the organizational plan provided allowed for a lasting change. Now’s the perfect time to tackle this if you’re ready to get your kitchen whipped into shape.

2. The Best Paint Colors for Gray Kitchen Cabinets
We painted our kitchen cabinets gray the minute we moved in and never looked back. I still love the color today. I got a lot of questions about colors I recommend for cabinets so I rounded up the best, most popular gray paint colors for kitchen cabinets.

1. A Whole House Paint Color Palette
After a few years, I finally put all of our home’s paint colors in one single post on the blog and it was the most read blog post of the year. Paint colors are a hot topic and people enjoy seeing them in an actual space. Additionally, having a proven palette of colors that you know work together is very helpful. This post is chockful of pictures of our home to showcase all the different paint colors we’ve used.
